Abstract

Abstract The process of confining concrete columns, as one of the most important structural elements, is a proper technique to increase their compressive strength. In this paper, the compressive behavior of concrete columns confined with two kinds of fiber-reinforced polymers including polyethylene terephthalate or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and aramid fibers, was investigated by evaluating a known compressive strength estimation model applied on a gathered experimental dataset. The gathered experimental dataset from previous empirical studies contained 10 concrete columns confined by PET and aramid FRP composites, named PET-FRP and AFRP composites. The evaluation outcomes showed that the selected estimating model was able to predict the compressive behavior of the experimental confined concrete columns with a correlation coefficient (R) value of 0.9385 and a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) value of 17.62 %.
