Abstract

Abstract Fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs), as novel external bonding composites play an important role in increasing the compressive strength of concrete columns. Nowadays various FRP composites are available in which different types of fibers including, aramid, basalt, carbon, and glass are utilized. In this paper, the confining effect of electrical glass fiber reinforced polymer (E-GFRP) and ordinary glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites on concrete columns were investigated. To achieve this goal, an experimental database including seventeen confined concrete columns was compiled and evaluated. Moreover, an existing model to analyze the relative compressive strength was selected and its performance was investigated analytically. The results show that the selected existing model revealed analytical relative compressive strength values which are close to experimental ones.
