Abstract

Oscillatory flow in a rectangular cavity may occur in the presence of a turbulent jet due to Coanda effect or non-uniformities in pressure. In the present research, the numerical simulation was carried out by the finite-volume based tool OpenFOAM code to investigate the influence of non-isothermal conditions on the frequency and amplitude in the oscillatory jets. For this purpose three different setting was considered. Results show that the temperature difference between jet and the cavity walls can significantly affect the flow pattern and the velocity distribution. It is observed that when there is a temperature difference between jet and the cavity walls, the oscillations can take place earlier. Also it's seen that the oscillations are more chaotic. Although, the temperature difference did not affect the amplitude, but the frequency is changed to 8 percent by temperature difference of 20 K.
