Abstract

Functionally Graded material (FGM) structures have interesting properties due to the change of material composition as a function and therefore are considered by many researchers. The first step in design and manufacturing of any desired part is computer geometric modeling. In this research an efficient method is presented for geometric modeling of a new FGM structure based on multisided patch and modified Schwarz P minimal surface. In the first step and for the first layer, a unit cell is constructed using multisided patch. In the constructed unit cell, the volume fraction of material is smoothly decreased from one side to the other in the first direction. By repetition of the constructed unit cell to the desired number, in the other two directions, the first layer is constructed. In the next step, in a similar way, the rest of the layers are constructed and placed one on top of the other so that the thickness of the structure reaches the desired value.
