چکیده مقاله

A novel method for combining two microstructures and consequently obtaining new geometrical arrange- ment with intermediate properties is presented. A series of two-phase microstructures is digitized and two-point correlation functions are obtained using discrete Fourier transform. Then by combining the au- tocovariance functions, two-point correlation functions of the new microstructure are obtained. In the subsequent step, the new microstructure is realized using the phase recovery algorithm. By changing the combination factor from zero to one, it is possible to obtain various intermediate microstructures whereas the properties of the combined structures gradually and smoothly change from the first microstructure to the second one. This study provides a straightforward approach for combining microstructures regardless of their morphology, state of anisotropy and volume fractions. The proposed procedure makes it possible to bridge between candidate microstructures with certain optimal property and compose hybrid optimal properties.
