Abstract

‫‪In‬‬ ‫‪this‬‬ ‫‪paper,‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪dynamic‬‬ ‫‪stability‬‬ ‫‪of‬‬ ‫‪144‬‬ ‫‪triple‬‬ ‫‪systems‬‬ ‫‪with‬‬ ‫‪known‬‬ ‫‪orbital‬‬ ‫‪elements‬‬ ‫‪is‬‬ ‫‪investigated.‬‬ ‫‪These‬‬ ‫‪systems‬‬ ‫‪are‬‬ ‫‪extracted‬‬ ‫‪from‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪updated‬‬ ‫‪Multiple‬‬ ‫‪Star‬‬ ‫‪Systems‬‬ ‫‪Catalog‬‬ ‫‪(MSC).‬‬ ‫‪Dynamic‬‬ ‫‪stability‬‬ ‫‪study‬‬ ‫‪has‬‬ ‫‪been‬‬ ‫‪performed‬‬ ‫‪using‬‬ ‫‪four‬‬ ‫‪different‬‬ ‫‪criteria.‬‬ ‫‪Observational‬‬ ‫‪stability‬‬ ‫‪parameters‬‬ ‫‪as‬‬ ‫‪well‬‬ ‫‪as‬‬ ‫‪their‬‬ ‫‪critical‬‬ ‫‪values‬‬ ‫‪have‬‬ ‫‪been‬‬ ‫‪calculated‬‬ ‫‪using‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪orbital‬‬ ‫‪elements‬‬ ‫‪and‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪mass‬‬ ‫‪of‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪components.‬‬ ‫‪The‬‬ ‫‪results‬‬ ‫‪of‬‬ ‫‪this‬‬ ‫‪study‬‬ ‫‪showed‬‬ ‫‪that‬‬ ‫‪most‬‬ ‫‪triple‬‬ ‫‪systems‬‬ ‫‪are‬‬ ‫‪stable‬‬ ‫‪and‬‬ ‫‪have‬‬ ‫‪a‬‬ ‫‪hierarchical‬‬ ‫‪structure,‬‬ ‫‪but‬‬ ‫‪three‬‬ ‫‪triple‬‬ ‫‪systems‬‬ ‫‪(with‬‬ ‫‪identities‬‬ ‫‪HIP89234,‬‬ ‫‪HIP9497‬‬ ‫‪and‬‬ ‫)‪HIP42424‬‬ ‫‪according‬‬ ‫‪to‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪existing‬‬ ‫‪criteria‬‬ ‫‪are‬‬ ‫‪dynamically‬‬ ‫‪unstable.‬‬ ‫‪The‬‬ ‫‪instability‬‬ ‫‪of‬‬ ‫‪these‬‬ ‫‪three‬‬ ‫‪systems‬‬ ‫‪is‬‬ ‫‪probably‬‬ ‫‪due‬‬ ‫‪to‬‬ ‫‪unrealistic‬‬ ‫‪experimental‬‬ ‫‪criteria‬‬ ‫‪or‬‬ ‫‪observational‬‬ ‫‪errors.‬‬ ‫‪At‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪end,‬‬ ‫‪the‬‬ ‫‪existing‬‬ ‫‪criteria‬‬ ‫‪are‬‬ ‫‪graded‬‬ ‫‪according‬‬ ‫‪to‬‬ ‫‪validity‬‬ ‫‪and‬‬ ‫‪accuracy.‬‬
