Abstract

Background: This study aimed to investigate the comparison of plantar pressure distribution and muscle frequency between hydrodynamic shoe and EVA shoe. Material and Methods: Twelve subjects were recruited for this experimental study. The special hydrodynamic shoe was including an outer sole with EVA including a special pathway to provide ways for flowing fluid. For the comparison, the typical sports shoe with EVA soles was recruited. Electrical muscle activity of the Gastrocnemius, Soleus, palmaris longus, and Tibialis anterior activity at 1000Hz sampling rate were measured using the Myon electromyography system. Subjects randomly wore hydrodynamic shoes and typical sports shoes and then go through the end of the pathway five times at self-selected speed. The onset and offset of muscle activation and an average of the smooth signal during the gait cycle were calculated and normalized based on maximum voluntary isometric contraction. The frequency variable includes mean and maximum frequency, f 0.995, and the bandwidth filter was also calculated. Result: The results indicated, there is no difference between the time and frequency content of muscle activity. Conclusion: Based on the results, it seems that hydrodynamic shoes could an important effect on the reduction of plantar pressure in related patients especially diabetic patients without any change in muscle activity and the economy of walking.
