چکیده مقاله

The motifs remained of the ancient times do not only denote the mere encounter of the viewer with beauty of the work, since depiction of these motifs is derived from the discourse space of those times and carries a different concept. Therefore, in order to analyze the political, religious, and social contexts of each period it is necessary to read the meaning of motifs in their own discourse space rather than the mere symbolism and generalization of a single meaning to the whole ancient times. The school of visual semantics-semiotics is derived from semiotic schools and analyzes and reduces all the elements in an image and then by making connections among the components engages in a kind of reading that leads to the discovery of meaning. The purpose of this descriptive-analytical research is to study the visual semantic-semiotic school and analyze the theories proposed by scholars such as Roland Barthes, Umberto Eco, Greimas , and Shairi, so that a methodical framework can be provided to read ancient motifs, as the main subject of visual semiotics is the recognition of hidden structural relationships in the image that leads to the production of meaning, and this in turn can be a useful tool to analyze the discourse space. Given. Accordingly, the visual semiotic school can be applied to recognize ancient works and analyze the discourse space of the old times.
