Abstract
Abst ract
In the present pap er, vibra tion behavior of hybrid lamina ted comp osite cylindr ical shells reinforced with shape memor y
alloy fi bers is investig ated. Material proper ties of s hape memor y alloy fi bers and composi tes are accurate ly considered
tempe rature depe ndent. Thermo -mechani cal proper ties of shape memor y alloy fi ber s with unifor m tempe rature ch ange
are calcula ted using Brinson ’s one-dim ensiona l con stitutive law. Love ’s fi rst app roxim ation and fi rst-order shear de-
formati on the or y of shells with the von K ´arm ´an type of geometr ical non -linearit y are used in con junction with Ham ilton ’s
princip le for deriving the equati ons of motion . The generaliz ed differential qua drature me thod is employed to solve the
cou pled par tial diffe rent ial equatio ns. The effects of pre-strain, volume fra ction, phase transfo rmation, location of shape
memor y alloy fi ber s, bou ndar y condit ions and temperature on the funda mental frequency of the hybri d laminate d
compo site cy lindrical shells are studied. Res ults indicate that a small amo unt of shape memor y alloy fi ber s signi fi cantly
increases the fundamenta l freque ncy and vibr ation con trol of the hybri d lamina ted composi te reinforced with shape
memor y alloy hyb rid lamina ted composi te cylindr ical shells.
