Abstract

This paper presents a robust and effective method for voltage and current control of an islanded microgrid. Theeffects of external disturbances and parametric uncertainties pose challenges in voltage and current control ofislanded microgrids. Therefore, adopting a robust and stable control method is imperative. Nonsingular terminalsliding mode controller (NTSMC) which is a subset of sliding mode controllers (SMC) is proposed in this paper tocontrol the voltage. Moreover, NTSMC is robust against a wide variety of uncertainties and external disturbances. Unlike conventional SMC, NTSMC ensures finite time convergence to the equilibrium point. Theproposed control method was implemented in Matlab/Simulink, and its performance was evaluated under dif-ferent loads and parametric uncertainties in the presence of external disturbances. Simulation results show the esirable performance of the proposed controller in maintaining stability of the islanded microgrid with precisevoltage and current control against significant uncertainties and external disturbances.
