چکیده مقاله
Chemical fertilizers and pesticides are commonly used in agriculture to enhance soil fertility and control pests due to their
ease of application and rapid results. However, these quick methods may lead to a reduction in the biological potential
of surrounding ecosystems. Vermicompost, a type of organic compost rich in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms,
positively affects the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil, promoting growth and yield of Horticultural
crops, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.
This qualitative and descriptive-analytical study aims to show the effect of vermicompost on growth, yield, fruit quality, and
stress resistance of Horticultural crops, reviewing the applications, characteristics, advantages, and impacts of vermicompost
on soil health and nutrient translocation to the plants.
Results of many studies indicate that excessive use of mineral fertilizers in orchards can have adverse effects in term of
a high salt index, as well as on plant growth and the environment, whereas vermicompost generally increases primary
metabolites, vitamins, and minerals in plants. Therefore, vermicompost can be employed as a natural and sustainable
strategy for managing fruit tree nutrition in these regions, significantly improving productivity and serving as a suitable
alternative to lessening chemical fertilizers.
