Language learning through captioned videos: Incidental vocabulary acquisition

At the present golden age of streaming (e.g., NETFLIX) and in the era of video distribution platforms (e.g., YouTube), people are being exposed to audiovisua lcontent more than ever before, which they may binge-watch on various devices,from smart TVs to smartphones. The boom of audiovisual content across the globe has triggered the proliferation of research on the role of audiovisual input in second language learning (Montero Perez 2022; Wei and Fan 2022). To contribute to this growing body of literature, Mark Feng Teng, in his scholarly monograph Language Learning Through Captioned Videos, sheds light on the potential benefits of using captioned videos as input for incidental vocabulary acquisition.
