چکیده مقاله

This study investigates the effectiveness of an active friction tuned mass damper (AFTMD) for mitigating the seismic responses of structures and modulating the control force. To this end, an adaptive sliding sector control (ASSC) strategy is used to adjust the control force of the AFTMD system. For the design of the AFTMD, the optimum parameters of a friction tuned mass damper (FTMD) is first obtained for an 11-story shear frame building under an artificial earthquake excitation. Then, the combination of the optimized FTMD and the ASSC strategy is used to design the AFTMD system for the seismic control of the shear frame building under the artificial earthquake excitation. Finally, the efficient performance of the ASSC-featured AFTMD system under four real earthquake excitations is validated and compared with that of the ASSC-featured active tuned mass damper (ATMD) system. Numerical results demonstrate that the AFTMD system considerably has not only the favorable performance in mitigating the seismic responses of the structure, but also less control force in comparison with the ATMD system.
